چکیده

This is a survey paper on LMDS. With a introduction on LMDS and then a discussion on fixed wireless networks, this paper looks into different ways fixed wireless communication can be achieved and then gives a brief description on the various broadbands available for communication. It also discusses technical and design issues involved with LMDS. See also: Other Reports on Recent Advances in Networking Back to Raj Jain's Home Page

Review and Analysis of Local Multipoint Distribution System (LMDS) to Deliver Voice, Data, Internet, and Video Services

Local multipoint distribution system (LMDS) uses cellular-like network architecture of microwave radios placed at the client's location and at the company's base station to deliver fixed services, mainly telephony, video and Internet access. The use of time-division multiple access (TDMA) and FDMA (frequency DMA) technology allows multiple customers within a 3-5 mile coverage radius to share th...

Improvement of Metropolitan Wireless Networking Using Wireless Optical Mesh Networks

Many wireless networking systems were established to manipulate metropolitan networks in order to provide internet, voice, data, video and TV services in large cities. Two major systems were used for such services; Local Multipoint Distribution Service (LMDS) and Multi-channel Multipoint Distribution Service (MMDS). Both of these systems are fixed broadband access networks and both have problem...

Local Multipoint Distribution System (LMDS)

As a result of the propagation characteristics of signals in this frequency range, LMDS systems use a cellular-like network architecture, though services provided are fixed, not mobile. In the United States, 1.3 MHz of bandwidth (27.5 B 28.35 GHz, 29.1 B 29.25 GHz, 31.075 B 31.225 GHz, 31 B 31.075 GHz, and 31.225 B 31.3 GHz) has been allocated for LMDS to deliver broadband services in a point-t...

Classification of Statistical Channel Models for Local Multipoint Distribution Service Using Antenna Height and Directivity

Abstract The antenna height and directivity are used in the classification of statistical channel models for local multipoint distribution service (LMDS). When directional antennas are used and the antennas are sufficiently high providing a line-of-sight (LOS) propagation path between the transmitter and receiver, the statistics of the radio channel can be described by the lognormal or Nakagami...

Coding and Modulation for LMDS and Analysis of the LMDS Channel

Local Multipoint Distribution Service (LMDS) has the potential to become a viable alternative to coaxial cable, fiber and other wired and wireless technologies providing "last mile" communication services. A major obstacle, however, is the high equipment cost. While for example cable modems supporting two-way services are available for $200 to $300, LMDS modem providing similar services will co...
